Tauentzienstraße

Tauentzienstraße belongs to the so-called “Generals Parade“. The wide street, built at the time of the German Empire, recalls the great boulevards in Paris and leads through the whole southwest of Berlin. In the past, a tram drove along the dividing strip. Today you will find, among other objects of interest, a silver sculpture known as the “Intertwined Intestines”. The official name is “Berlin”, and it was erected during the city jubilee in 1987. With chromium-nickle tubes, the artist couple Matschinsky and Denninghof wanted to symbolize the divided and yet connected city. Two years later the theme of this work of art no longer applied.
